Bhubaneswar: A police complaint was on Thursday lodged against BJP’s Puri Lok Sabha candidate Sambit Patra for allegedly using Lord Jagannath’s name on his vehicle being used for election campaigning.
Sources said that an official of the flying squad registered a FIR against Patra in this connection at Sea Beach police station.
Meanwhile, a BJP candidate on Thursday smashed an EVM while voting was underway in Ganjam district, a poll official said.
Nilamani Bisoi, the BJP’s MLA candidate for Suroda Assembly Constituency, broken the EVM at polling booth No. 182 at Renti village under Suroda police limits, said Ganjam collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.
Nilamani was detained, the collector said.
