Telangana: Ration dealers plan stir

Dealers are demanding an increase in commission or treat them as employees and to pay them salaries each month.

Hyderabad: Ration dealers across the state have served a strike notice to the government on Wednesday. They threatened to go on an indefinite strike from July 1 if their long pending demands are not resolved.

Telangana State Ration Dealers’ Association president Nayikoti Raju and general secretary Avula Sanjeev Reddy met civil supplies officials and served the strike notice. They announced that the dealers will hold a public meeting in the city in May to lodge their protest against the indifferent attitude of the state government towards the problems faced by the ration dealers.

“We went on strike in November 2017. We withdrew the strike after the government promised to resolve our issues at the earliest. Six months have passed since then but there has been no initiative from the government to resolve our demands,” Reddy said.

Dealers are demanding an increase in commission or treat them as employees and to pay them salaries each month. They said dealers are suffering losses due to non-release of arrears since October 2015.
