Telangana: IMD gets it wrong on second day too

If not a storm, then light to moderate rain is very likely to occur at isolated places on April 19 and 20.

Hyderabad: The weather forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) of a thunderstorm with gusty winds that was to hit TS on Tuesday was wrong for the second consecutive day. Instead, there was searing heat and no sign either of the ‘light to moderate rainfall’ the official website had put out. All districts recorded rise in the maximum temperature. Kotgiri in Nizamabad district and Vikarabad in Ranga Reddy received scanty rainfall.

The forecast for Wednesday on the official website of the IMD said thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds was likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Karim Nagar, Sanga Reddy, Mahbub Nagar, Gadwal, Warangal, Nalgonda, Khammam and Ranga Reddy districts. If not a storm, then light to moderate rain is very likely to occur at isolated places on April 19 and 20. Another storm warning has been announced for April 23.

An IMD-Hyderabad official said, “The department identifies thunderstorm activity across the state and only then releases prediction. Storm activity was gearing up for Nagarkurnool, Mahbub Nagar and a few other districts, thus the predictions were announced. Even on Wednesday cloud formation was noticed in Ranga Reddy and south of Telangana. Moderate rainfall in parts of Nizamabad and Vikarabad is a result of thunder activity. However, there will be a rise in temperature.”
