About 50 per cent of the companies to be shifted are life sciences or pharma related.

Hyderabad: Industries minister K.T. Rama Rao and minister for forest and environment Jogu Ramanna on Tuesday reviewed the work being done to prevent air pollution rise and dissolution of chemical wastage with the TS Pollution Control Board with bulk drugs and chemical industries in Hyderabad.

The shifting of industries with high pollution rate outside the ORR was also discussed. The ministers made it clear that a GO issued in 2013 over the shifting would be implemented now.

“All this being done to just prevent Hyderabad becoming another New Delhi,” Mr Rao said, adding that17 places have been identified outside of ORR where these industries could be shifted.

The shifting of the industries will take place only after the government ensures that all necessary facilities are provided,” he reassured.

About 50 per cent of the companies to be shifted are life sciences or pharma related. “A Pharma City of international standards will be built for the companies. Till then, the companies have to ensure zero liquid discharge. A toll-free number would be set up for any queries,” Mr Rao said.

Mr Ramanna said, “The government is implementing laws strictly and will take all the measures to prevent environmental pollution. Any industry that breaks the law and pollutes the environment will face criminal charges.” CCTV cameras will be installed in the industry premises to check if the waste is let out into the soil.
