Merger stage-managed show, says Pon Radhakrishnan

Something suspicious over this move: Pon Radhakrishnan.

CHENNAI: Contending that there is more to something than meets the eye in the “succession war” in the AIADMK, Union minister of state for road transport, highways and shipping Pon Radhakrishnan has claimed the patch up between the AIADMK factions is a “stage managed show.” The incidents unfolding in the AIADMK following the I-T raids and also its attempt to “bribe” even the Election Commission to regain its two leaves symbol, show that the party is “stage managing its unification,” claimed Mr Radhakrishnan. Speaking to reporters in his home district on Tuesday, he said none of those in the AIADMK would be able to say why it split or why it is uniting now.

“Even if they regain their two leaves symbol after the merger, I don't think anything good is likely to ensue for Tamil Nadu as the performance of the present government has not been satisfactory,” Mr Radhakrishnan said and added that it was shameful that they had even attempted to bribe the Election Commission. Refuting an allegation that his party had any role in the political developments, he said “there is no need for BJP to gain political mileage over the I-T raids.”

“Now there are moves to unify the two factions. There is something suspicious over this, I feel. They have scripted a play. They split and are now coming together. There are chances for truth to be suppressed if they unite,” Radhakrishnan said. He claimed the two groups led by V. K. Sasikala and former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam wanted to unite “due to some apprehensions.”
