Explain why review petition was not cleared, Telangana govt asked

The bench granted four weeks to the respondents to file their affidavits.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday sought to know the reasons from the authorities for not disposing of a review petition by an educational institution before the panchayat raj department in 2012 with regard to property tax.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Shameem Akhter was hearing a PIL by Purumalla Srinivas, former sarpanch of Bommakal village in Karimnagar.

The petitioner told the court that in 2011, the Bommakal gram panchayat imposed Rs 21.33 lakh as property tax from 2006-2007 with arrears onwards on M/s Arihant Educational Society.

He submitted that the society moved a review before the PR department in 2012 and obtained a stay. Till date, neither was the stay vacated nor the review disposed of due to which the gram panchayat income was affected, Mr Srinivas said.

The bench granted four weeks to the respondents to file their affidavits.
