Education system should include research, innovation: CH Vidhyasagar Rao

He distributed cash prizes to the top projects selected in the Techknow 2017 national level competition on Tuesday.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Governor CH. Vidhyasagar Rao on Tuesday said education system should be enhanced to include research and innovative knowledge to nurture the spirit of creativity. He distributed cash prizes to the top projects selected in the Techknow 2017 national level competition on Tuesday. G.Deepak, final year student from RMK engineering college in Chennai, won the first prize this year.

The student had come up with the smart tyre pressure handler for maintaining air pressure in the tyre constantly without any variation. "The economic growth of a country largely depends on technological innovations and skilled human resources. The industrial development mirrors the strength of technical education of a country," Vidhyasagar Rao said. He also said the startup India initiative will bring sustainable growth and generate large-scale employment opportunities.

"Research-based knowledge has the potential of generating productive human resources. Coming up with more academic collaborations with foreign universities to stretch the frontiers knowledge will help compete globally," he added. Speaking to this paper G.Deepak said, "About 15 per cent of accidents and 40 per cent of fuel wastage is due to the inconsistency of air pressure in tyres. This smart handler not only maintains the pressure but it can also produce power." He also applied for the patent rights for his innovation. The All India Manufacturers' Organisation will help the students who got the top three prizes in the competition to launch their own company.
