Dhinakaran faction rubbishes expulsion

Any leadership change should be approved by the “entire party and not a handful of ministersâ€.

CHENNAI: The announcement from the Edappadi Palanisami group of ministers and party seniors booting out V. K. Sasikala and TTV Dhinakaran from the ruling AIADMK came under attack from the loyalists of ‘Chinnamma’ who insisted that any leadership change should be approved by the “entire party and not a handful of ministers”.

“This (expulsion) is not the party’s decision”, insisted Andipatti MLA and OPS baiter Thanga Tamizhchelvan. “These are the same people who made Chinnamma the party general secretary and announced TTV Dhinakaran as the candidate in the RK Nagar by-election. Now they are saying they do not want the family. Why such a decision? Why this hurry?”

“I don’t accept the statements by a few ministers as that of the party. If it is a party decision, it has to be taken after calling district secretaries, ministers, MLAs and MPs and consulting them. This was the personal decision of the few ministers and seniors who met among themselves and made the announcement. It does not bind the party”, said Thanga Tamizhchelvan.
