Steps taken by TS, AP governments satisfy HC.

Hyderabad: Justice Challa Kodandaram of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday reserved orders on a petition challenging a GO issued by the TS government in declaring five surrounding villages of Hyderabad as municipalities and merging them into the GHMC. The judge was concluding hearing a petition by T. Vikram Reddy challenging the decision to merge Meerpet, Jillelaguda, Balapur, Jalpally and Pahadi Shareef into the GHMC by declaring them as municipalities.

Expressing satisfaction at the steps being taken by the TS and AP governments to avert deaths due to heat waves, particularly during the summer season, the Hyderabad High Court on Monday closed a petition alleging failure of the governments to take appropriate measures to protect lives of the people from the heat wave conditions in both the states. A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice P. Naveen Rao was dealing with a PIL by P. Srisailam of Ranga Reddy district.

Special government counsels for both states told the bench that the government of TS and AP have issued orders to the district authorities concerned for providing shelters, drinking water and ORS sachets in public places and to provide free emergency health services for people affected by heat waves. They said that steps have also been taken to create public awareness about the hazards of heat waves and also not to allow labourers to work between 12 noon to 3 pm. After recording the statements, the bench declared that the PIL closed.

The Hyderabad High Court on Monday issued notices to the Central, AP and governments and the CBI on a petition by Abid Rasool Khan, the chairman of Minorities Commission of AP and TS, seeking a CBI probe into misappropriation and mismanagement of Wakf properties in both states.

The petitioner alleged that 40 per cent of Wakf properties in both the states have been misappropriated. He urged the court to direct the respondents to consider the representations made by the Minorities Commission seeking CBI enquiry into the affairs of the alienation / encroachment of the properties vested in Wakf institutions across the two states. Justice Sanjay Kumar issued notices and adjourned the case.

Ensure kin of farmers get ex-gratia: HC

The Hyderabad High Court on Monday told the TS government to ensure that compensation reaches families of farmers who ended their life. A division bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice P. Naveen Rao was dealing with a batch of petitions filed separately by Vyavasaya Jana Chaitanya Samiti, Pakala Srihari Rao, Professor M. Kodandaram and others, challenging the inaction of the TS and AP governments to stop farmer suicides in the two states.

Submitting a list of about 200 families, counsels appearing for the petitioners told the bench that these families of farmers who committed suicide have not received any compensation. After perusing the list the bench told TS special counsel S. Sharath Kumar to instruct the authorities to immediately pay compensation to the genuine cases in the list. Adjourning the case to June 20, the bench asked Mr Kumar to file an affidavit by the next date of hearing.
