Bengaluru: 20,000 litre of water to keep dust away!

The CM spent a few hours in Bilagi though Hungund and Badami are worst hit and need immediate attention.

Hubballi: Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah has waded into yet another controversy with officials and Congress leaders in Bilagi, Bagalkot being accused of wasting around 20,000 litres water to prevent the dust and sweltering heat from causing discomfort to the Chief Minister.

Trying to downplay the controversy, local legislator J.T. Patil maintained that there is no drinking water scarcity in Bilagi and the Chief Minister had visited the town merely to check drought conditions.

But the farmers were not impressed. “The Chief Minister spent a few hours in Bilagi though Hungund and Badami taluks are worst hit and require immediate attention.

“Officials have set up fodder banks at a few places just to please the Chief Minister without making any effort to supply it to cattle. The tour conducted by politicians is an eyewash to attract media glare,” farmer leader Vijay Kulkarni said.

The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure adequate supply of drinking water in rural areas during a meeting in Bagalkot before returning to Bengaluru.
He also said he would hold a discussion with the Maharashtra Chief Minister seeking immediate release of water from Varuna reservoir into Krishna river which has totally tried up in Bagalkot.

The chief secretary of Maharashtra has already assured him to release 2 tmcft water to Krishna river. Strict vigil should be maintained to prevent supply of fodder to other states owing to severe shortage in Karnataka.
