Thiruvananthapuram: Adoor Prakash back to Attingal

Congress had stumbled in Attingal, Chirayinkee-zhu and Varkala Assembly segments out of seven in the LS seat.

Thiruvananthapuram: Konni MLA Adoor Prakash, 63, can smile now as he will be fighting the polls from Attingal where he had kicked off his campaign quietly in December itself with the blessings of the leaders of both factions. Five-time MLA (1996, 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016) from Konni, Adoor had served in the previous UDF ministry as the minister for health, food and civil supplies and revenue. Ever since CPM’s Susheela Gopalan wrested the seat from Congress in the 1991 LS elections, Congress had been on the decline. This time the KPCC leadership wanted to field a strong Ezhava candidate and zeroed in on Adoor Prakash though he faced opposition from veteran Congress leader Vakkom Purushothaman at one stage.

“I am confident of winning from Attingal though my candidature was decided late. I have already completed one round of campaigning across the seven Assembly segments,” said Adoor Prakash.

Congress had stumbled in Attingal, Chirayinkeezhu and Varkala Assembly segments out of seven in the LS seat. The Congress hopes that the Attingal voters would select the best candidate in the fray.
