Probe on right path to trace Mugilan: CBCID

APP Iyyapparaj also filed a status report of ADSP, CBCID before the court relating to the investigation conducted so far in the case.

Chennai: The CBCID police has informed the Madras high court that the investigation is being carried out in the right direction to trace the whereabouts of Mugilan alias Shanmugam, an anti-Sterlite activist, whose whereabouts were not known from February 16, 2019.

Additional public prosecutor C. Iyyapparaj made this submission when the HCP filed by advocate Henri Tiphagne came up for hearing on Monday before Justices M. Sathyanarayanan and M. Nirmal Kumar.

APP Iyyapparaj also filed a status report of ADSP, CBCID before the court relating to the investigation conducted so far in the case.

Advocates Sudha Ramalingam and V.S. Suresh submitted that the wife of the detenue is present before the court. The police have put up posters relating to missing of Mugilan. But, the Railway police were stalling us from distributing pamphlets. Mugilan had three Cell Phone numbers. But, the police were conducting investigation only in respect of one phone number. But, from the other two cell phone numbers, Mugilan has sent messages. A face book posting was also made from one of the phone number. From this the location can be identified, they added.

The bench said Additional public prosecutor C. Iyyapparaj undertakes to do the needful with regard to voice calls and other messages emanated/ received in the said phone numbers and same would be intimated in the status report to be filed in the next date of hearing on April 8 including inward and outward messages of social media.

The status report filed by the ADSP, CB-CID, Crime Branch, discloses among other things that 17 teams headed by DSP, Crime Branch, CB-CID and Inspector of police, Crime Branch, has been constituted to assist the investigation in the case. So far 251 witnesses including friends and associates of missing detenue have been examined and the investigation is also being done in respect of the cell phone numbers of the detenue, the bench added and posted to April 8, further hearing of the case.
