Kochi: MGU to build centre for tourism studies at Muttom
Kochi: The Mahatma Gandhi University syndicate which met on Monday decided to construct a building at a cost of Rs 10 crore for the School of Tourism Studies at Muttom in Thodupuzha where the university has 25 acres in picturesque settings facing Malankara dam.
Once this building is ready, the School of Tourism Studies would be shifted from the Athirampuzha headquarters campus to Muttom.
The university had already allocated Rs 10 crore for the purpose in its budget. Tourism, hospitality and logistics courses are already run in the school.
The syndicate also decided to suspend the principal of St Aloysius College, Edathua, from the post of chief superintendent for breaking the seal of a wrong question bundle and then conducting the exam later without informing the university.
The principal told the university about it one month after the incident. Syndicate member Aji C. Panicker was authorised to conduct a probe into the matter and submit a report within one month.
The meeting decided to conduct valuation camp at Carmelgiri College, Adimali. It decided to distribute 75 percent of the working fund of National Service Scheme units of eligible affiliated colleges by March 31.
The meeting presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof Sabu Thomas also decided to give special chance to students who were sacked from CMS College to write their exams and also the succeeding exams.
