DK Shivakumar\'s lawyer objects to ED’s information report

The minister has challenged the summons issued to him by ED.

Bengaluru: A Congress leader and senior advocate, who is representing Water Resources Minister D.K. Shivakumar in a money laundering case before the Karnataka High Court, on Monday objected to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) submitting to the court the enforcement case information report at this stage of the case. The minister has challenged the summons issued to him by ED. The case was adjourned to Tuesday.

Habeas corpus plea dismissed
The High Court dismissed a habeas corpus plea filed by the brother of Gauhar Aziz, who along with two others had confessed to their involvement in the 2010 bomb blast outside Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium. Hassan Azhar Amir had filed the petition stating that his brother had been illegally detained.

The National Investigation Agency court had awarded seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 7.25 lakh on Gauhar and two others who had confessed to the crime. Later, Azhar approached HC, which amended the order and reduced the fine to Rs 2.70 lakh. Azhar alleged in his plea that despite paying the fine, prison authorities have not released Gauhar citing ambiguity in lower court's order on the sentence. Dismissing the plea, HC asked the petitioner to approach the lower court.
