Hyderabad: Five of a family drown in lake
Hyderabad: Ugadi turned out to be a sorrowful occasion for a family. Three members of a family from Hyderabad, along with two of their relatives who had gone to their native place in Medak district drowned in a lake during a swim.
While the Hyderabad-based man, both his kids, his brother-in-law and his niece drowned in the lake, their car driver Subhan Ali Baig who was standing near the parked vehicle managed to rescue two others.
The deceased were identified as Khaja Imtiyaz Ali, 40, his two sons Khaja Ishaq Ali, 12, Khaja Ahmed Ali, 8, his brother-in-law Asif, 28 and his niece Huda karima, 18.
According to the police, Imtiyaz Ali hailing from Medak district had settled in Kulsumpura in the Old city of Hyderabad. Two days ago, his family and a few of his relatives had gone to their native village Kannaram in Kowdipally mandal in the district.
On Sunday morning, Imtiyaz, his kids and some relatives went to Pedda Cheruvu in the village for a swim. Ishaq Ali, Ahmed Ali, Asif and Huda entered the lake one by one to swim, and others followed them. But due to the pits dug up by JCBs in the lake, they could not estimate the depth of the lake and began drowning. Imtiyaz who was on the bank saw this and jumped into the lake to rescue them, but drowned. Seeing this, the others who were on the bank raised an alarm.
Their car driver Subhan jumped into the water and rescued Ubedullah and Fathima. Later with the help of the villagers, the bodies of five members were recovered from the lake and handed over to the family after an autopsy.
