Use CM's funds to waive loans: TDP
TD MLA A. Revanth Reddy said that debts forced over 2,000 farmers to commit suicide in TS in the last two years.
Hyderabad: The Chief Minister’s discretionary funds of Rs 4,675 crore allotted under Special Development Fund in the new Budget should be diverted to the loan waiver scheme to save farmers from committing suicide, demanded the TD in the Legislative Assembly on Friday.
TD MLA A. Revanth Reddy said that debts forced over 2,000 farmers to commit suicide in TS in the last two years. He said that the government has been clearing loan arrears in four installments due to which the banks are denying fresh loans to farmers forcing them to take loans from private financiers at higher interest rates.
“If Rs 4,250 crore from the CM's funds are diverted in addition to this, the entire loans of farmers can be waived at a single go,” Mr Reddy suggested.
