Nellore: No misuse of water from Somasila, says M Janaki

District collector M. Janaki has made it clear that there is no misuse of water.

Nellore: District collector M. Janaki has made it clear that there is no misuse of water from Somasila dam while reacting to the allegations on the subject in the recent past.

Speaking to media persons here on Friday, she said they have earmarked 43.7 tmc ft of water to raise crops in 4.32 lakh acre as per a resolution passed by the Irrigation Advisory Board during a meeting held on December 12 last year.

She said that there was some confusion over the calculation of utility by farmers associations while pointing to their allegation over misuse of 26 tmc ft. According to the collector, the associations have added additional 15 tmc ft to the inflows in their calculations and this led to the confusion.

Similarly they have not taken the evaporation loss into the account and missed to add 10.7 tmc ft released from the dam for the irrigation needs. She said that she came to a conclusion that every drop of water was utilised for cultivation after personally verifying the computation of farmer forums with official records pertaining to inflows and outflows.

She said that she submitted a detailed report to the government on difference of 3.2 tmc ft related to storage in the dam for further action by the government. Irrigation SE Subba Rao, DE Veera Kumar, Telugu Ganga EEs K.V. Ramana and Vijayakumar Reddy were present with the collector.
