KOZHIKODE: The patients of Government Mental Health Centre, Kuthiravattom, are now living in a delightful world of colours, thanks to the unsung artists of the Government Engineering College. A few months ago, the students painted the old block of their college with beautiful sketches and graffiti creating a stunning impact.
The response from the other students prompted them to create a similar vibe among the patients of the mental health centre and they painted the walls of the hospital with beautiful graffiti designs.
This has become a social initiative of the entire college as part of its upcoming National -Level Techno- Cultural Fest- ‘Lakshya- 16’ to be held from March 31 to April 2. The colours for the hospital were selected after a discussion with the superintendent and doctors.
“It was a rare opportunity for the students of our college to exhibit their art for the cause of a community which is in need of a change of atmosphere, which we have done through our colours”, said T.A. Abdulla, college union member. Four areas of the hospital, mainly 6th ward, park, entrance and rehabilitation centre, were painted with graffiti images of trees, musical instruments, musical notes, flowers and other beautiful items.
“This benefited especially the 6th ward where some of the chronic patients of the hospital stay with no scope of seeing the outside world other than a long compound wall in front of their respective cells”, he added. The students have decided to continue their initiative of free painting for more similar centres in the district and add colours to the life of the people.
