Chennai: Korean company honcho from Kolkata killed

Bus driver booked for rash driving.

Chennai: A top honcho of a Korean company from Kolkata travelling in an hired SUV from Chennai airport to Cuddalore was killed along with the driver of the cab after their vehicle was hit by a government bus, bound to Chennai on Chengalpet bypass.

The bus jumped over the median and collided with the car at 7.45 am killing the two in the car and injuring 4 persons on the bus. The police identified him as Prapir Maiti, 52, of Kolkata and driver Janardhanam, 40, Ayanapakam, Chennai.

The Toyota Innova in which the victims were travelling was totally crushed in the impact. Prapir Maiti was on a business visit to Cuddalore and had landed at Chennai airport only on Friday morning.

The bus, involved in the collision, was coming from Sengottai to Chennai. Of the four passengers injured, only one woman identified as Murugeswari was admitted to Chengalpet medical college, the police said.

Bus driver R. Ponnudurai had been booked for careless and rash driving. Police believe that he could have dozed off and caused the accident. The bus had jumped the median on the bypass flyover and collided with the car. The mishap had caused traffic jam in the bypass for more than 30 minutes, the police said.
