Hyderabad: City police achieved a breakthrough in the Abhay Modani murder case with his brother Abhishek identifying the kidnapper as the servant who worked in a neighbour’s house till recently.
Sources said the youth, named Sai hailed from Rajahmundry and was working in the neighbourhood till recently. He had quit the job, but came back to the city a week ago.
Police also found Abhay’s scooter (TS 07EQ 5695) on Thursday night which was abandoned at Darussalam X Roads.
Sources said five people suspected to be involved in the case are in custody. Meanwhile, the businessmen of Begum Bazaar held a candlelight rally on Friday evening in memory of Abhay.
Sai was a friend of Abhay and his twin brother Abhishek. Many kids in the neighbourhood also know him as he often played cricket with them and flew kites. “After seeing the CCTV grab a neighbourhood girl identified him and later Abhay’s brother Abhishek also identified him as Sai,” an official said.
After killing Abhay, Sai is believed to have fled to Vijayawada by train and after reaching there, he abandoned his phone and the SIM which he had used for communicating with Abhay’s parents. Later, he started using an old SIM. The police, who got his old mobile number, from his previous employer, tracked him to Rajahmundry.
Cop have reached Rajahmundry to track down Sai. “Once we get him we will know the reason for the kidnap and murder,” an official said.
