Tasmac staff shooting: Guns sourced' from Nagpur, Chennai
Dharmapuri: The two youths arrested in the case in which a staff of the state-owned liquor retailer Tasmac was robbed by opening fire at him, had sourced weapons from Chennai and also from Nagpur in Maharashtra.
On Saturday night, 45-year-old Makarajothi of Naripalli village in Harur taluk here, working as salesperson in the Tasmac shop here at Chitloor
village, was allegedly robbed.
Two masked men who came behind him in another two-wheeler had waylaid the victim at the Chitloor - Naripalli junction, and robbed ' 1.5 lakh from him.Timely alert helped the police to nab the criminals in a few hours after the crime. Those arrested were identified as M. Venkatesh (28) and associate N. Bharathan (24), both natives of Uthangarai in Krishnagiri district.
Police raid on the houses of the accused led to recovery of a few guns and some explosives. When questioned, the duo told police that they had purchased the weapons from their sources in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and also from Chennai.
Bharathan, a graduate in English literature, who also could speak Hindi had mediated the weapons deal during their visit to Maharashtra after committing a robbery in which they had allegedly looted 'three lakh from two Tasmac staff.
The incident took place in Uthangarai, similarly like Makarajothi was robbed on Saturday.
On Monday, Venkatesh and associate Bharathan, were produced in Harur judicial magistrate court and sent to jail as remand prisoners.
