EB temporary worker suffers severe shock

Locals tried to rescue him, but it was only quite after some time they could bring him down using a ladder placed on a truck.

Chennai: A 30-year-old employee of TNEB suffered severe shock when he climbed an electric pole to fix a faulty wire, in Madipakkam on Monday morning.

According to police, Sreenivasan, a temporary employee with the Electricity Board Substation in Madipakkam, had climbed an electric pole around 11 am to fix a faulty wire at St. Thomas mount on the Medavakkam main road.

Accidentally, he came in contact with a live wire and suffered severe shock. He allegedly got entangled within the wires on the electric pole and was found hanging from the pole.

Locals tried to rescue him, but it was only quite after some time they could bring him down using a ladder placed on a truck.

They rescued him and admitted him in a private hospital in Madipakkam.

He was later shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi government hospital where he is under treatment. A case has been registered with Madipakkam police, and a special team is investigating the case.

It is illegal and extremely dangerous for anyone who is not a trained wireman to climb an electric pole, said the police. Investigations are on.
