DRDO women who broke the glass barrier

A model of the medium weight fighter (MWF) would be unveiled for the first time at Aero India 2019.

Bengaluru: For the first time, the achievements of women scientists who overcame the glass barrier in aerospace sector will be displayed by DRDO (Defence Research & Development Organisation) during Aero India 2019.

On the penultimate day of the air show, Olympians Mary Kom and P V Sindhu are scheduled to visit the DRDO pavilion and felicitate some of these top achievers of DRDO

Another first by DRDO would be interactions with scientists, technologists and test pilots for the benefit of students and young entrepreneurs taking part in the show, according to sources in Ministry of Defence (MoD).

In addition,, about 250 systems, technologies, working models and innovations of more than 20 laboratories under different technology clusters of DRDO connected to aerospace & aeronautics would be on display. The participating clusters include Aeronautical Systems, Missiles, Armaments & Combat Engineering, Electronics & Communication Systems, Micro electronics Devices & Computational Systems, Naval Systems & Materials and Life sciences.

In the DRDO pavilion, models of LCA-Tejas variants including IAF’s Mark-1, Medium Weight Fighter, the naval variants and trainer variant will be on display. In addition scaled model of twin engine stealth aircraft, AMCA (Advance Medium Combat Aircraft) will be showcased along with the audio-visual effect. Models of proven products as well as futuristic advanced fighter aircraft with stealth features would be put on show along with models of missiles developed at home—Astra, QRSAM, MRSAM, and Brahmos.

Sources said DRDO would also display proven expertise in the field of fighter aircraft simulators design & development as well 360 degree immersive virtual experience kiosks and both these facilities would offer an insightful experience.

In addition, DRDO would also display demonstrative Virtual Design, Assembly and servicing of LCA Tejas aircraft virtual reality experience centre to offer near real life experience to visitors.

The highlight of DRDO’s participation at the air show would be aerobatics of LCA Tejas by the 45th Squadron of IAF and flight display of the Airborne Early Warning & Control System (AEW&C) inducted recently by the IAF.
