CAR constable beaten up for objecting to public urination

The incident was reported near Vinayaka Theatre on Mysuru Road on Friday night.

BENGALURU: A City Armed Reserve (CAR) police constable, who questioned four drunk youth urinating on the compound wall of a temple, was assaulted. The incident was reported near Vinayaka Theatre on Mysuru Road on Friday night.

The assaulted policeman, Purushottham, 50, a resident of Mysuru Road CAR police quarters, was posted as gunman for MLC and film producer C.R. Manohar. According to the police, after returning home from work Purushottham had gone to buy medicine for his wife. While returning, he found four people urinating on the compound wall of a Ganesha Temple.

As he questioned them, the accused told him to mind his business and allegedly punched him on his face. One of them allegedly picked up a brick and hit on his head and face.

“Hearing the commotion, some passersby gathered and the accused fled. Purushottham was taken to Victoria hospital, where he was treated. He was in plain clothes when the incident occurred and had not seen the assailants before. Some CCTV cameras installed in the locality have captured the movement of the accused persons and efforts are on nab them,” the Cottonpet police, who have registered a case, added.
