Plea in Kerala High Court for speed limit boards
KOCHI: Drivers often find the lack of proper signboards along roads, especially near schools and hospitals, a major problem. A petition seeking speed limit boards along all roads in the state, including state highways, national highways and other roads, by various agencies, is pending in the Kerala high court.
The writ petition filed by C.P. Ajith Kumar of Travel Operators Association of Kerala (TOAK) will be considered next week.
“The two grievances in the writ petition are a lack of signboards on speed limits in areas like school zones where the maximum speed is 35 km per hour and inordinate delay in issuing notices to offenders,” said Jaju Babu, the petitioner's counsel.
The petition says violations happens because of lack of information about the permissible limit along different category of roads. “This is because of the lapses on the part of authorities to put up signboards stating the permissible speed,” he said.
