Moms to be honoured for selfless sacrifices

From managing resources to being guardian angel, there is no one better than mother.

Chennai: From managing our resources to being our guardian angel, there is no one better than our mother. Most often, mothers are not recognised for their altruistic sacrifices in moulding their children, and hence the “Salute to Mothers” programme, explains M. Murali, owner of Sri Krishna Sweets. This year’s edition will see the organisers honouring Mrs Tamilselvi, mother of Lieutenant N. Parthiban killed during an encounter with militants near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. “Mother’s care and affection should not be confined to a particular day like Mother’s Day. I think her presence is felt throughout one’s life’s journey. It is the greatest power in the universe,” says Mr Murali who will preside over the launch the seventh edition of Salute to Mothers at Music Academy, here on Friday. “Next to mother, it is motherland that is of paramount importance. Hence we have decided to honour Mrs Tamilselvi, the mother of Lieutenant N. Parthiban,” Mr Murali, managing director, Sri Krishna Sweets, added.

The event, the brainchild of Mr Murali saw a galaxy of mothers including prominent personalities like Swami Dayananda, lyricist Vairamuthu, former Vice Chancellor Thiruvasagam, director Shankar, the Mozart of Madras A.R. Rahman, being honoured with a shawl and memento, with their children seated at their feet in the past. “My mother is very lovable. She has no other thought other than taking care of me… the pleasant thought of my mother creates positive energy around. I always feel connected with my mother and father,” he said when asked to describe his feelings towards his mother. Recalling the speech of Swami Dayananda who during the previous edition of “Salute to Mother” had said ‘if you thought there is some good thing in me. It is from my mother,’ Mr Murali said “this is true of everyone, irrespective of the profession we are in.”

He agreed positively to suggestion to bring out a Coffee table book on the quotes of celebrities on mother and motherhood. Friday’s event will see the mothers of N. Vijay Siva, Carnatic musician, V. Selvaganesh, percussionist, Kausthub Desikachar, CEO, Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation, K. Sivakumar, religious speaker, Sri Vidya Shankar of Ramani and Shankar Advocates Law Firm, Dr C. Palanivelu, Gastroenterologist, Dr V. Ramachandran, senior consultant neurologist, Kalaimamani Dr Ambika Kameshwar, founder director RASA Ramana Sunritya Alaya Academy for the research and performance of Indian theatre arts, Venkat Ramaswamy, executive director of Edelweiss Financial Services Ltd, P.
