JNU row: Scribes condemn attack

The district committee of the journalists union said such incidents were a threat to democracy.

KOLLAM: At a meeting at the Press Club, the scribes in Kollam condemned the attack on journalists at Pattiyala House court complex.

democracy. Press Club president C. Vimal Kumar presided over the function and
secretary D. Jayakrishnan welcomed the gathering. Union state committee member C.P. Surendran and Press Club treasurer Pradeep Chandran addressed the journalists.

Lawyers demand release of Kanhaiya Kumar

All-India Lawyers Union conducted a protest march at Kerala High Court and demanded an unconditional release of Kanhaiya Kumar.

Ranjith Thampan, Ashok M. Cherian, P V Surendranath and N Manoj Kumar participated in the event.

Left groups boycott classes

The arrest and attack on Kanhaiya Kumar, president of JNU students' union in Delhi, has evoked widespread protest in the state with students, journalists
and lawyers staging demonstrations in various places on Thursday.

Students’ organisations including SFI and AISF boycotted classes across the state demanding the withdrawal of sedition charges slapped against Kumar.

A ‘Prathishedha Kuttayma’ was organised on the Karyavattom campus of Kerala University. The Thiruvananthapuram district court premises at Vanchiyoor witnessed a minor tussle between lawyers owing allegiance to the left parties and BJP.

Journos stage protest march against attack

The journalists in Kochi on Thursday staged a protest march in the wake of the attack carried out by lawyers at Delhi, Patiala House Court on mediapersons who went to cover the court proceedings in connection with the arrest of JNUSU
president Kanhaiya Kumar.

Mediapersons took out the march from Ernakulam Press Club to Kerala High Court premises and back to the Press Club. They demanded action against the lawyers who attacked the journos.
