Former Gujarat DGP R B Sreekumar wins case
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Gujarat DGP R. B. Sreekumar, who has been engaged in court battles to protect minority victims of the 2002 carnage, was at the receiving end back home, as a builder refused to vacate the house his wife had rented out at Kesavadasapuram in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Additional Munsiff Court here on October 31 last year upheld Ms Rajalekshmi Sreekumar’s contentions on unauthorised additions made to the 32-cent property-cum-house by the tenant, Salim M Kabeer, managing director of Grandtech Builders and Developers Pvt Ltd, and ordered him to vacate the house in one month.
The court had made it clear that an appeal, if any, against the order based on Kerala Buildings (Lease and Rent Control) Act could be considered only after Salim Kabeer remitted the rent arrears (amounting to Rs 36 lakh).
‘Lekshmi Vilas’ was rented out for business purposes in 2008 but the tenant had not paid rent since 2012 and ignored notice for surrendering the house and property, which he had altered without the permission of the landlord.
Additional Munsiff Wincy Ann Peter Joseph dismissed seven major
contentions raised by the tenant, who argued that the landlord had other property to use during her short visits from Gujarat, where she was permanently put up along with her husband.
