BJP feels Vellapally Natesan move is to pressure it

The central BJP leadership has asked state president Kummanam Rajasekharan to ignore Mr Vellapally's tactics.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan trying pressure tactics on BJP for the forthcoming Assembly elections, the BJP labours to create an impression of being friendly towrds Kerala Congress (M).

The central BJP leadership has asked state president Kummanam Rajasekharan to ignore Mr Vellapally’s tactics. Mr Vellapally told DC that his party, the BDJS, was keen to have an alliance with any front which cared for it.

The state BJP leaders feel that Mr Vellapally and his son Tushar Vellapally have been making tall claims and demands before the national BJP leadership.

Mr Vellapally’s mediator with the central leadership has been RSS ideologue S. Gurumurthy over key posts ranging from a ministerial berth in the union cabinet for the junior Vellapally, Y category security to the duo and Mr Subhash Vasu who was recently elevated as president of BDJS.

“We have been asked not to react to Vellapally’s statements. BJP national president Amit Shah has said he will deal with the demands of Vellapally directly. The bargaining by Vellapally will continue until the last moment,” said a senior BJP leader.

The state BJP pretends to cosy up to KC (M) chairman K. M. Mani as the party won seats in the local bodies election in central Kerala with the support of KC (M). The KC(M) has an upper hand in Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts which have a sizable population of Christian voters.
