Hyderabad: More than ten thousand General Nursing and Midwifery students from institutions affiliated to Osmania and Gandhi Medical colleges are compelled to write the exams despite the Covid pandemic’s present spread in the state.

The students and the nursing bodies urged the Director of Medical Education to either postpone the exams or allow their concerned college to conduct the exams by following the social distancing norms.

According to their association, for each batch, around 800 students have to sit together for the exams. This, the students fear, may result in a spread of the Covid 19 infections, affecting their health. The spread can happen when even one student carries the virus, they reasoned.

The state government announced holidays for all educational institutions, as the present Omicron spread is faster and the Covid cases are on the rise. Most universities in the state have cancelled their examination for this reason.

The examinations are held from January 17 to 31. In each batch, 800 students will write the examination.

Dr. Rajeswari Muppidi, president of the Telangana state trained nurses association, said, “All schools of nursing are under DME. Now we hope the deputy director of nursing would take up this matter seriously and resolve the issue.”

“DME is urged to allow the concerned nursing colleges to conduct the exams in their respective colleges,” she added.
