Kerala: No washrooms? Here's the Kloo

KOZHIKODE: The Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association has come up with a ‘Kloo’ to solve one of the most pressing problems being faced by road travellers. It has launched a project called ‘Kerala Loo’ or Kloo, under which over 20,000 hotels and restaurants across the state affiliated to the association will open the doors of their toilets for free to anyone in need.

The users need not order food for the purpose as is the case now.

The initiative has been launched as part of the association’s 54th state convention to be held at Calicut Trade Centre here from January 25 to 29.

KHRA state president Moidheen Kutty Haji said that a mobile application was also in the pipeline, which will feature restaurants and hotels, their restrooms and other facilities available. The public comfort stations cause discomfort to the travellers who find it difficult to locate good and hygienic restaurants and restrooms. Hence, ‘Kloo’ will be a big boon to them, he added.

A pilot project was already launched in Kozhikode two months ago when U.V. Jose was the district collector.

Mr G. Jayapal, general secretary, state committee, KHRA, said a three-day hotel expo will be conducted at the convention venue featuring all the major hotels in the state. New machinery and technologies will also be introduced to the hotel owners and entrepreneurs in the sector.

The convention will highlight the need for the hotels to opt for online food business as corporate companies were entering the sector in a big way posing a challenge to them, he said.
