I'll back mahagathbandhan, says Prakash Raj
Bengaluru: Film star turned political aspirant, Prakash Raj on Friday announced that he would back the Mahagathbandhan formed by the opposition parties to take on the ruling BJP at the Centre.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday. Mr Raj said, "The motive of the opposition parties seems to be very clear: To take on the Narendra Modi-led BJP and since I have the same motto as theirs, I am supporting them."
He clarified that he would not contest the Lok Sabha polls on the ticket of any political party. "They may treat their members as voters. So, I will be contesting the polls as an independent candidate to get support from everyone," he said adding that he would be the people’s real voice in Parliament if he won. He claimed that he had examined his electoral prospects for the last three months before taking a decision to contest the elections.
Asked why he chose Bengaluru Central constiuency to contest the polls, Mr Raj explained that it was a microcosm of India, having people from all communities and those from across the country.
"People here(Bengaluru Central) do not look at me through the prism of caste, region or language, they see me as their real representative," he added.
