Dharamapuri: He was supposed to be home for Pongal, cries jawan's wife

DHARMAPURI: A pall of gloom descended on Bandarachettipatti village following information about the death of 42-year-old A. Suresh, native of the village and head constable in the Border Security Force (BSF).

Suresh, the son of a railway employee, had served the country for around 22 years after he joined the ‘78th battalion’ as jawan in 1995 and then promoted as head constable.

The martyr was lastly posted along the international border in RS Pura sector, where he died. Suresh was killed late Wednesday night in an attack conducted by the Pakistani troops on the Indian post violating ceasefire.

“At around 12.30 am we received the first communication as my brother was injured in the enemy’s attack” A.Subash Chandra Bose told DC here.
The 46-year-old Subash Chandra Bose, grieving elder brother of Suresh, added, “our family prayed for his well being, but he was declared dead around 4 am today (Thursday).”

According to Bose, his younger brother was a sportsperson and would often speak of serving the nation. He, after completing the SSLC, had joined BSF.
Suresh had extended his service for another five years when the family though that he would return home after completing his twenty years of service in BSF.

The head constable told the relatives that he would join the family for Pongal festival. But, Suresh could not come because of not getting leave.

“We expected him for Pongal, but he could not make it. On Wednesday night, Suresh promised to come home after January 22, but fate willed otherwise for him, to only receive his dead body,” said Subash Chandra Bose, as he broke down emotionally.

Suresh is survived by wife Janaki (30), daughter Punnagai (13) and a son Aadarsh. The children are studying in a private school in Uthagarai of Krishnagiri district.
