Change of guard at Udupi math draws thousands
Udupi: Thousands of people including leaders and elected representatives from various political parties participated in the famous Paryaya celebration at Udupi with the famed Sri Krishna Math at the centrestage of the events on Thursday.
The Paryaya event marks the commencement of a two-year term when Sri Vidyadheesha Teertha swamiji of Palimaru Hrishikesha Mutt, one among the eight pontiffs of Udupi Krishna Math, will be in charge of offering daily pooja to Lord Krishna.
The 52 year old seer ascended the 'Paryaya,' seat for the second time on Wednesday.
The Paryaya celebration began with the seer having a holy dip at the 'Danda Teertha.' He along with other Swamijis and the presiding deity of the Palimar Mutt were taken in a massive procession comprising of a number of tableaux and performing teams from Jodukatee to Rathabeedi.
After having darshan of Udupi Krishna through 'Kanakana Kindi,' Vidyadheesha Teertha Swamiji offered prayers at Sri Chandramauleshwara and Sri Anantheshwara Temples and also offered prayers to Lord Krishna and other deities inside the Math.
Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt handed over the 'Akshaya Patra,' the vessel said to have been passed from Sri Madhwacharya, a Hindu philosopher and the proponent of the Dvaita school, to his 'Shishyas' and which is in the possession of the Paryaya Peetadipathi, to Vidyadheesha Teertha.
Vidyadheesha Teertha ascended the 'Sarvajna Peetha' at 'Simhasana,' marking the beginning of his term of administration.
After completing the rituals at 'Aralu Gaddige,' the seers headed to the Paryaya Darbar to address the dignitaries and public present on the occasion.
