Bring fuel under GST ambit: BJP
Thrissur: The BJP has demanded to bring petrol and diesel under the GST regime. BJP president in Kerala, Kummanam Rajasekharan, said the state lamenting about the hike in diesel and petrol prices had not demanded it in the GST Council. “Neither the state government passes on increased share in fuel taxes to consumers like other state have done,” he told reporters here on Thursday as a part of his ‘Vikas Yatra’ to create awareness about the Union government’s schemes.
"Only GST Council can unanimously decide to include commodities under the ambit of GST." He said the LDF government had failed to provide land to the landless tribals and Dalits but was going soft on land grabbers like former minister Thomas Chandy and P. V. Anvar MLA. He said the state was afraid of the Union government taking away the credit of development projects and so more than Rs 400 crores allotted as a part of Amrut Project for the development of cities and Rs 300 crore for Sabarimala remain unutilised.
“It spent not even two percent of them and no action has been taken to submit the fund utilisation certificate of such projects to receive further allotments,” he said. Dr T. K. Vijayaraghavan, former Cochin Devaswom Board president, former CPI district committee members M. R. Rameshan, retired deputy collector Vishalakshi Amma, Prof G. Lakshmi Narayanan were among hundred people joined the BJP at a function here on Wednesday, he said.
