Bengaluru: Even the men in khaki, who are supposed to ensure law and order in the city, are not safe and are increasingly facing attacks from anti-social elements.

In third such incident reported this month, two constables attached to the Kodgehalli police station were attacked by a gang of four, who have escaped with one of their loaded rifle early Thursday in Kodgehalli police station limits.According to the police, around 2 am, the constables, Siddappa and Paramesh were on their night rounds when they received an alert from the control room saying a suspicious group was roaming around near Tata Nagar.

The constables immediately reached the spot on their bike and as they approached the gang, they were attacked by the latter with a dagger and an iron rod.As soon as the constables fell from their bike, one of them snatched their rifle and escaped, as they feared the cops might open fire on them.

Soon the message was sent to the control room and with the help of reinforcements, the injured constables were rushed to a nearby hospital. A senior official said that check posts were immediately set up in and around the area and a special team was formed to nab the accused.

In a similar incident reported in JJ Nagar on Tuesday night, a rowdy attacked a police constable with a machete while he was trying to stop a fight between two rowdies. The constable, Rajendra, sustained severe head injuries and multiple cuts on his hands and abdomen.

In another incident on January 13, Sub Inspector Naveen Kumar and Constable Shankar, attached to the HAL police station, were attacked by three men with beer bottles. The three men were immediately arrested by the police.
