Hyderabad: Panther caught in trap shifted to Tirupati zoo
Nellore: Forest officials rushed to Perumallapalli village in Bangarupalyam mandal to rescue a female panther, aged about 3 years, struck in a trap set by some unidentified people to trap wild boars in the farm of one Babu Reddy during the early hours of Wednesday.
A local farmer alerted the villagers after they spotted the animal caught in the trap at about 5.30 am on Wednesday.
Based on the information provide by locals, forest officials led by Chittoor West range officer K. Narayana Swamy dashed to the village located close to AP-Tamil Nadu border to free the panther.
However, locals objected to releasing the panther alleging that it was responsible for the death of cattle in frequent intervals during last two months.
In this backdrop, forest officials sought the help of Zoo officials in Tirupati to transfer it to the Zoo.
A team from Tirupati Zoo including a veterinary doctor went to the spot and moved the Panther into a cage after giving sedation.
The animal was shifted to the zoo later.
