Cattle consignment video goes viral
Chennai: Social media went gaga on Wednesday circulating videos and post related to jallikattu. One of the video posts showed a consignment of cattle arriving at Chennai airport alleging that jersey cattle were brought in to the state as part of a corporate lobby to replace TN’s indigenous breeds with foreign ones. With the video and pictures being shared in FB stating that the jersey breed cows were brought for the Alamathy live stock breeding centre in Tiruvallur to breed the foreign cows, students thronged the Red Hills toll plaza looking out for the exotic cattle.
However sources with animal husbandry department maintained that no cattle was brought in to Tiruvallur as the centre breeds only the murrah buffalo variant under the Central sponsore livestock breeding scheme.
Social media abuzz with support
Support for jallikattu has come not only from protestors at Marina Beach, or college students outside colleges or at IT parks, but also from social media users who have been strongly voicing their support online. Social media garnered support from actors as well who went on posting of their support to the protest. #SupportJallikattu had been trending for hours on Twitter.
What earned appreciation on social media was how peacefully the protests were carried out, and how despite numerous women and children taking part, none faced harassment from the men. Actor Simbu, Nayanthara and Vijay took to videos and posts hailing protestors and giving their support to the sport.
