Kids fed stale food in mid-day meal

The school has about 250 children of which 182 students attended that day.

Hyderabad: Chilukanagar primary school at Uppal served stale food, leftovers from Sunday night’s Ayyappa maha padi puja, to children during their mid-day meal on Monday afternoon.

The school has about 250 children of which 182 students attended that day.

Some students, who sensed something wrong with the food, refused to eat during their meal time and later in the day, they complained about it at home.

When parents questioned the school authorities, teachers in turn questioned the cooks, only to learn that the food was from the previous night’s puja. It was served after re-heating, with the other food.

According to sources, one of the agency person’s relatives was in the puja event through whom the food was brought to the school in containers.

Students were served, potato, tomato and brinjal masala curry.

Following a complaint from several parents, mandal education officials inspected the school and have investigated the issue by talking to the students, teachers and the agency cooks.

Speaking to the Deccan Chronicle, Madana Chari, mandal education officer (MEO), Uppal, said, “When we questioned the agency people directly, they accepted that the food was the previous night’s and have apologised. However, we have now passed a resolution to cancel the mid-day meal contract with the agency. The inspection report was sent to the district education office as well on Tuesday.”
