Telangana: Call for lifetime achievement urdu awards

This time, the Academy plans to present awards from 2014 to 2017 to 28 personalities.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Urdu Academy is seeking applications from aspirants for lifetime achievement awards which were deferred for four years.

Speaking to mediapersons, Mohammed Raheemuddin Ansari, president of the Academy, said the Academy presents lifetime achievement awards in seven categories like poetry, critics and research, fiction, education & teaching, journalism and promotion of Urdu language. This time, the Academy plans to present awards from 2014 to 2017 to 28 personalities in recognition of their services to the promotion of Urdu language.

This award carries cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a citation. Interested persons can submit their applications citing their achievements on or before December 31. In the first week of January a jury will be constituted to finalise the winners, he said.

Mr Ansari said that the Academy will confer the Maqdoom Mohiuddin award for 2016 and 2017 and the Moulana Azad award for 2017 which consist of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 2.25 lakh prize money and a citation plaque. A search committee will be constituted very soon to prepare a short list. He said that the Academy will organise a national-level mushaira next year and conduct district level Urdu seminars in all 31 districts of the state in which poets and scholars will be honoured with citations and prize money distributed among them. He added that the Academy will revive its abandoned schemes and retrieve computer training centers which were transferred to the Minorities Finance Corporation.
