Bengaluru: Following directions from a local court, the Basaveshwaranagar police have registered an FIR against three police officials, including two inspectors from the Central Crime Branch (CCB), for raiding a private club in March 2017. The case has been filed against Ramesh Rao and Prakash, inspectors attached to the CCB special enquiry squad, and K.Y. Ashwathaiah, Basaveshwaranagar sub-inspector. Jitesh, a manager at the clb in Basaveshwaranagar VII Main, had filed a complaint with the Basaveshwaranagar police in 2017 and this is the second FIR being registered in the same case.

According to the police, on March 24, 2017, a CCB team led by the two inspectors raided the club and arrested 13 men on charges of gambling. Jitesh approached the police and filed a complaint alleging that the raid was illegal as the club had the license to play cards. The police, however, closed the case saying the complaint had no truth in it. Jitesh then approached the court, seeking its intervention in registering a fresh FIR. The court directed the Basaveshwaranagar police to register an FIR against the three, following which, the police have taken up a case under IPC Sections 341 (wrongful restrainment), 384 (extortion) and 441 (criminal trespass).
