Kerala: Anti-GAIL protesters to resume stir

Blames govt laxity in implementing victims relief package.

KOZHIKODE: The Anti-GAIL Action Council has decided to resume the agitation alleging laxity on the part of government in implementing the relief package for victims. The Council has also demanded that human habitats should be exempted from the pipeline laying. At a meeting of the state-level coordination committee, held at Mukkam here on Sunday, it was decided that a people’s resistance will be organised at Nellikkamparambu near Mukkam on Tuesday.

The committee also urged all project-affected families to come out in the open to register their protest and express solidarity with the action council, said a press release issued here on Sunday. The meeting also asked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to ensure that housing is provided for those who lose house due to the project. “It is the duty of the state to provide home for those who had to surrender it for the project,” the action council noted.

The meeting also urged Chief Minister against unleashing terror on the project-affected families using police and the goons of GAIL. “The Chief Minister should approach the issue with an open heart,” the meeting said. An elaborate meeting of GAIL victims will be held at Kozhikode in the first week of January. State-level coordinator CP Cheriya Muhammed presided over the meeting.
