Telangana Assembly elections: Miryalguda seat leads to dispute
Hyderabad: The controversy over the Jangaon Assembly seat ended on Saturday with the Congress taking the seat in the third list that was released on Saturday. But a new dispute flared up with the TJS over the Miryalguda seat.
Former minister and Congress senior leader Ponnala Lakshmaiah succeeded in getting Jangaon after party president Rahul Gandhi persuaded TJS chief Prof. M. Kodandaram to leave the seat to the party.
Former minister Marri Shashidhar Reddy was denied the Sanatnagar seat which was allotted to the TS Telugu Desam, part of the Mahakutami. Mr Shashidhar Reddy alleged that TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy had misled the high command over the Sanatnagar seat.
Mr Shashidhar Reddy told mediapersons that he was ready to sacrifice in the interests of the party and added that he would not contest as an independent. According to him, the TD had not shown interest in the Sanatnagar seat but even so it was allotted to the TD.
SBC leaders staged a dharna in front of Gandhi Bhavan alleging that injustice was done to BCs in the seats allotment.
Out of a total of 119 seats, the Congress has allotted 25 seats (TD -14, TJS-8 and CPI-3) and in the remaining 94 seats, the Congress will contest. So far the Congress has announced 88 names, 65 in the first list, 10 in the second and 13 in the third list. The Congress still has to announce 6 names.
According to TPCC sources, the Secunderabad Assembly seat will be given to former corporator Uma who has already filed her nomination. Huzurabad will be given to Mr Kousik Reddy, Korutla to Mr J. Narasinga Rao, Devarakadra to Mr Pradeep and Narayankhed to Mr Suresh Shetkar or Mr Sanjeeva Reddy.
Controversy on Miryalguda
In the seat adjustment, Miryalguda was allotted to the TJS. Congress senior leader K. Jana Reddy tried till the last minute to get the seat for his son Raghuveer Reddy. But after leaving the Jangaon seat to the Congress, the TJS was firm about taking the Miryalguda seat. TJS wants to field Mr Vidyadhar Reddy from this seat but Mr Jana Reddy is bringing pressure on the TJS to field his relative Vijayendar Reddy. The truth is that without the support of Mr Jana Reddy in Miryalguda, winning this seat will be very difficult for the TJS. Mr Jana Reddy made it clear to the TJS that if Mr Vidyadhar Reddy was given the ticket, he would not offer support. If the Congress high command takes a decision to retain the Miryalguda seat because of the pressure of Mr Jana Reddy , TJS will be given another seat. Telangana Telugu Desam has announced 12 candidates and has to announce two more. TD wanted Secunderabad seat but the Congress has decided not to allot it.
Pending seats: Huzurabad, Narayanpet, Narayankhed, Korutla, Devarakadra, Secunderabad
