No colour for women poll booths, says Election Commission

TS Chief Electoral officer Rajat Kumar said that the women employed at these polling stations could wear any colour of their choice.

Hyderabad: With objections raised by Opposition parties over the use of pink colour for polling booths for women, the Election Commission has directed that no specific colour be used in women-managed polling booths.

TS Chief Electoral officer Rajat Kumar in a statement on Saturday said that it wanted to avoid any inadvertent use of any colour associated with any particular political party in or at such polling booths.

He said that the women employed at these polling stations could wear any colour of their choice. He added that no single colour should be used for the paraphernalia associated with the construction of such polling stations. He said that the polling staff, including police and security personnel, deployed at and in these polling stations were to be women. These all-women managed polling stations were named “Sakhi booths” at some places and pink booths at other places, he added.
