Bengaluru: An awareness drive was held on Saturday across various locations in the city to highlight the importance of use of helmets for children riding pillion in two-wheelers.
The drive was organised by Exide Life Insurance, as part of its CSR initiative ‘Helmet Saves’, and Sri Chaitanya Techno School, Seshadripuram.
Schoolchildren and Exide Insurance volunteers gathered at Chalukya Circle, Millers Road and other busy junctions, to convey the message.
The awareness drive was inaugurated by Sarah Fathima, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic). Students marched on the roads holding placards and handed leaflets to two wheeler riders.
A group of students wearing helmets, along with Exide Life Insurance volunteers, engaged with two-wheeler riders, especially those with children riding pillion without a helmet.
Commenting on the initiative, Antony John, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said, “Bengaluru traffic police supports Helmet Saves Children Week.”
Mohit Goel, Director - Marketing and Direct Channel, Exide Life Insurance, said, “Last year we conducted a survey on helmet wearing habits and were alarmed to know that three out of four children riding pillion do not use a helmet.”
Dr Soya Nambiar, Principal, Sri Chaitanya Techno School, said, “It is common today to see a child pillion rider on a motorcycle clinging on to an adult without adequate protection. Such attitude of adults towards children is dangerous.”
Helmet Saves is a CSR campaign, which was launched by Exide Life Insurance in 2017.
