Belagavi may get another cabinet berth: Dr G Parameshwar:

Belagavi could get another ministerial berth in the government and appointments to the boards and corporations would also be made soon.

Hubballi: The much-awaited Cabinet expansion will take place in the last week of November and eight vacant berths, including six of the Congress will be filled, according to Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwar

Speaking to reporters in Belagavi on Saturday he said Belagavi could get another ministerial berth in the government and appointments to the boards and corporations would also be made soon.

While asserting that the government would complete its full five year term, Dr Parameshwar made a surprise admission that he was ready to become Chief Minister himself if the Congress high command thought him fit for the position.

Contending that he was competent enough for the post as he had successfully served as KPCC president for two terms, he said it was upto the Congress’ central leadership, however, to take a final call in the matter.

“I will handle any position the party gives me . I have been serving as deputy Chief Minister after the party reposed faith in me to handle the position and I am also ready to serve as Chief Minister if it wants me to,” he added.

The Deputy CM said the government was discussing the report of the Raghavendra Auradkar Committee on hiking salaries for police constables and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy seemed inclined to approve it. “Around 5,000 policemen will be recruited in the next five years,” he revealed.
