Hyderabad High Court seeks information on death in police station
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Friday directed the Sircilla district superintendent of police to submit in a sealed cover, the records of the case registered with regard to the alleged custodial death of K. Venkatesh as a ‘suspicious death’.
Justice S.V. Bhatt was dealing with a petition by Ms K. Renuka, the wife of Venkatesh, and the People’s Union of Civil Liberties.
The judge directed the district medical and health officer and superintendent of government hospital concerned to submit the postmortem details in the sealed cover.
The petitioner alleged that the Central Crime Station police of the district had killed Venkatesh, Despite the complaint of Ms Renuka, senior police officers had failed to take action against the police officers responsible his death.
Ms Renuka told the court that the CCS police had tortured her husband to death on July 13. She urged the court to order a probe by the CBI into the death of her husband and to direct the authorities to pay adequate compensation to her family. The judge posted the case to November 20.
TD ex-MLA gets bail in DD case
The High Court granted bail to former Telugu Desam legislator K. Venkata Prasad of Kadiri, who was convicted of cheating the State Bank of India by drawing about '4 crore with the help of stolen demand drafts.
A special CBI court had convicted the former MLA and sentenced him to five years imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 45,000.
The former MLA moved an appeal before the High Court challenging the conviction and Justice A. Shankar Narayana while admitting the appeal, granted bail.
