Banks asking farmers to pay interest, says TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy
Hyderabad: A delegation of state Congress legislators led by TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday met Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudana-chary and submitted copies of documents pertaining to over 10,000 farmers whose interest on crop loans was not paid by the government.
Speaking to mediapersons, Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said the documents included the farmers’ individual applications, notices served to them and communication sent by district collectors.
He said the papers were submitted to the Speaker to counter Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao statement on closure of the loan waiver scheme. He said that the TRS government had “cheated” the farmers by splitting the crop loan waiver scheme into four instalments. This had led to delays, leading to banks levying penal interest on farmers’ loan accounts.
The delegation included TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramar-ka, PAC chairman J. Geetha Reddy, MLAs G. Chinna Reddy, Rammo-han Reddy, N. Padmava-thi, A. Sampath Kumar and Vamsichand Reddy and TPCC Kisan Cell chairman M. Kodanda Reddy.
