TNERC dismisses Adani's plea seeking higher tariff

Major setback to 288 mw project commissioned at Kamuthi.

Chennai: In a major setback to Adani’s solar power project at Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission has dismissed the two separate petitions filed by the Adani seeking to pay the tariff of Rs 7.01 per unit for 288 mw solar project commissioned after March 31, 2016, for which Tangedco is paying a tariff of Rs 5.10 per unit. The full bench of TNERC comprising of its chairman S. Akshayakumar has dismissed the petitions filed by the subsidiaries of the Adani Green Energy (Tamil Nadu) Ltd (AGETL) — 216 mw Kamuthi Solar Power Ltd (KSPL) and 72 mw Ramnad Renewable Energy Ltd (RREL) seeking a tariff of Rs 7.01 per unit as both the projects were interconnected to grid after the March 31, 2016 due to non-readiness of interconnectivity at the Tantransco's end, sources said.

The AGETL, an Adani Group Company, had signed an MoU with Tangedco for setting up a 648 mw solar project in Kamuthi in Ramanathapuram district. As per the power purchase agreement with Tangedco, the solar power generated by the plants will be paid a levelised tariff of Rs 7.01 per unit if it was commissioned before March 31, 2016. Beyond which it will get a new tariff of '5.10 per unit.

The group has set up the plant through five subsidiaries -216 mw AGETL, 216 MW KSPL, 72 mw Kamuthi Renewable Energy Ltd (KREL), 72 mw Ramnad Solar Power Ltd (RSPL) and 72 mw RREL. However, the group was able commissioned the 216 mw AGETL, 72 mw RSPL and 25 mw of 72 mw KREL before March 31, 2016 and got the tariff of Rs 7.01 per unit while the rest of the plant were connected to the grid after the deadline got the revised tariff of Rs 5.10 per unit.

The Adani group filed a petition with TNERC seeking the tariff of Rs 7.01 per unit for the plants commissioned after the deadline alleging that the delay was due to non readiness of the inter connectivity facility at the Tantransco's end. However, the TNERC dismissed the petition.
