Chennai: Government staff request salaries in cash
Chennai: Citing the hardships to draw cash from banks, especially rural areas, state government staff and teachers have demanded payment of salary as cash for the next three months. However, it will be a mammoth task as the total salary for the government employees is about Rs 3,380 crore and handling the task of payment in cash will be complicated, say government officials. The government staff associations said the employees and teachers are waiting in long queues affecting their official work.
J.Ganesan, president of TN Secretariat Association, told DC that most of the employees are unable to draw money to pay educational loans and house rents. Besides, cash is necessary to pay education fee and medical expenses. Government employees are showing proper accounts to their income and paying income tax regularly and they should not face problems in drawing their salary, he added.
